Yosemite Road, Berkeley + John Wheatman + McCutcheon Construction

“Arana has been painting for our general contracting company for several years. They provide excellent work with personal service. Whether interior or exterior, residential or commercial, they are highly recommended. I used them to paint my own house, which, as a contractor, is my highest praise.” ~ Michael McCutcheon, McCutcheon Construction.

The exterior and interior colors for McCutcheon’s North Berkeley home were selected by famed Bay Area interior designer and author of two books on interior design, John Wheatman.

The basement interior space was created via an extensive dig-out by Duvall Construction, with interior design by Wheatman.

An interplay of light and dark: This addition of 1000 square feet of living space under this house was an impressive feat to witness, so much fun to paint! Especially the detail of the white floating shelves contrasting against the dark toned wall. This basement illustrates how beautiful spaces can be discovered and utilized right inside the existing envelope of your home. On the “light side” of the basement, the white —Decorator White by Benjamin Moore, was a good choice because it brings light into the space. At the same time, the brown walls in the other room (the dark side) and the brown floor together offer an emotionally soothing, warming effect.
