Project Description

Six-Color Stucco Home Repaint in Southside Berkeley was completed by Arana Craftsman Painters for a two-story single-family home in the Southside neighborhood of Berkeley, CA. The residential project covered the rear, right, front, and left sides of the home, along with selected surfaces on a detached garage. A six-color exterior palette was used to bring contrast and definition to the stucco, trim, windows, doors, gutters, columns, garage surfaces, and concrete steps.

The full exterior painting project took approximately two weeks to complete. The scope included the main stucco body, eaves, fascia, window frames, door frames, gutters, downspouts, the garage door, the front porch landing, and other exterior details. The rear wood door was also sanded and varnished as part of the home’s exterior update.

Custom colors were produced in a mix of Benjamin Moore Regal Select Exterior finishes and Kelly-Moore exterior products. Mushroom was used across the main body, cornice soffits, and eaves. Khaki Green, Oxblood Shade, Faded Ochre, Spanish Sand, and Tile Red were then placed on selected trim, windows, doors, columns, gutters, fascia, fireplace stucco, and concrete surfaces.

Background/Story

The homeowner had owned the Southside Berkeley property for many years and had a strong appreciation for hands-on work. As a woodworker and craftsman himself, he understood the amount of time and care required to repaint a two-story home with this many colors and exterior details. Rather than complete the work himself, he chose Arana Craftsman Painters to manage the full exterior project.

This was more involved than applying one body color and one trim color. The home used six different colors across the stucco, cornice details, window sash, door casings, gutters, columns, fascia, concrete stairs, and other surfaces. Each color needed to be placed according to the existing design so that the finished exterior kept its character and visual balance.

The project also included wood refinishing for one rear door. The door was sanded and varnished instead of being covered with exterior paint. This kept the natural wood visible while refreshing its finish as part of the larger exterior project.

Results

The completed project refreshed every visible side of the two-story home while keeping the detailed color scheme that gave the property its character. Mushroom created a soft base across the stucco, soffits, and eaves. Khaki Green and Oxblood Shade added contrast around the windows, doors, fascia, and other framed details.

Faded Ochre was used on the gutters, cornice fascia, and column details, while Spanish Sand separated the entry columns and fireplace stucco from the main body. Tile Red completed the palette on the concrete stairs. The colors worked together to give each exterior feature a clear place within the overall design.

The windows received attention across the sash, frames, casings, and sills rather than being treated as one general trim surface. The same level of detail was carried through the doors, eaves, fascia, gutters, downspouts, garage door, detached garage, porch landing, steps, and entry columns.

The rear wood door received a different treatment from the painted surfaces. Sanding and varnishing allowed the natural wood to remain visible while giving the door a refreshed finish. This was a fitting choice for a homeowner who values woodwork and understood the benefit of preserving the material rather than covering it with paint.

At a project cost of approximately $17,500, this residential exterior repaint covered the full two-story home, selected detached garage surfaces, concrete areas, detailed trim, and rear door refinishing. The work was completed over two weeks and brought the home’s six-color exterior scheme back into clear focus.
